The Beginning
Before Sheep in wolf's Clothes, Phil (a.k.a. Philbert) was a regular in hardcore concerts in the NY, NJ, PA area. He lived a hard life filled with violence, drugs and defiance. He was a guitarist in hardcore bands, but was going quickly down the road to self-destruction. Miraculously, Phil met Jesus and surrendered his life when he received the Gospel (Good News) that Jesus can save the most wretched of sinners.
Likewise, before Sheep in wolf's Clothes, Peet was living a life of rebellion and carelessness. He grew up hearing about Jesus, but saw many in his Roman Catholic religious experience were not really living anything out. He fell in love with Jesus after reading the Gospel of Matthew- but with no real Christian influence, he fell away. After moving to Long Island, NY Peet became enthralled with heavy music. He moved to NJ for a brief time and joined a band called Son of Sam (not the one related to The Misfits- those guys came shortly after SoS broke up). That was his first hardcore band. Circumstances brought Peet back to NY and then, after feeling like he needed to return to Florida (where he grew up), he committed his life to Christ at a church before a message was even preached.
Peet and Phil met in 1990 after both became fully devoted to their faith in Jesus. Of course they began sharing musical ideas and decided to form a band. They took a few days before Phil came up with the name Sheep in wolf's Clothes- yes, they now realize the phrase should have been "Sheep in Wolves' Clothing", but they like how it is a bit different than the normal phrase.
The new band quickly recorded a DIY demo using a church's sound equipment. It was done on cassette tape and mass produced. They gave the tapes away to anyone who was interested. Some tapes went to Europe.
The Splitting
After some time working on music together, Phil felt called to return to the northeast. It was a good move in one major sense. He ended up marrying his wife Jessica after moving.
Phil became a pastor as time went by. Peet went to college, graduating from Southeastern College (now Southeastern University) in 1996. Peet was also a pastor twice and director of a missions ministry to Brazil in the early 2000's.
The Second Generation
As the years went by, Peet continued the band in Florida with several other members, and then Peet and Phil handed the band over to some young men at Phil's church, Refiner's Fire Ministry, in Portland, PA. They recorded an EP called "Blindfolds are Stupid" in a studio. Phil and Peet supported and encouraged the new generation of SiwC. During this time Peet updated the logo to the SiwC hardcore cross logo.
The Future
The status of the band is currently on a hiatus, but if new music is offered, it will continue to be straight forward Christian content because as Peet said recently, "that is our sole purpose in being. We have to use our music to point a lost world to the Way... to find salvation in the name of Jesus Christ."
